Matched and Granular Energy: building transparency in the 24/7 clean energy space

Granular Energy and Matched partnership

We're pleased to announce a partnership with Granular Energy, the SaaS platform helping suppliers build and deliver hourly matching clean energy products.

The work we do is complementary: Matched brings independent transparency to the market whilst Granular Energy gives suppliers the operational infrastructure around building and running hourly tariffs.

Public data. Private data. Same destination.

At Matched, we work with public data—Elexon settlement records and Ofgem's REGO registry. We calculate half-hourly matching scores for every major UK supplier and publish them openly.

Granular Energy works differently. They sit inside supplier operations, processing detailed private data about consumption and generation. They help suppliers build tariffs where the matching actually happens hour by hour, consumer by consumer. Granular Energy also operates in many countries beyond the UK.

In short, Matched can tell you how renewable your supplier's energy is and Granular Energy can help suppliers deliver it.

Consensus around standards

The energy sector is moving toward hourly matching—slowly, but it's moving. That shift only works if everyone's speaking the same language.

Granular Energy already supports tariffs built to EnergyTag's existing standard for hourly matching, enabling tariffs to align with the Climate Group 24/7 Coalition guidelines. They're also preparing to support the GHG Protocol's updated guidance on carbon accounting, which lands later this year.

We're aligned on this too. Our methodology was built from the start to reflect the maturing standards in hourly matching and carbon accounting. We've watched the standards evolve, and we've built Matched around the growing consensus.

The work behind the work

Granular Energy has supported our methodology development from the beginning. They've shared insights into real-world scenarios, challenged our assumptions, and helped us understand the UK energy market.

That feedback has been invaluable.

One shift, two layers

The case for hourly matching is straightforward: to be physically meaningful, renewable claims must be based on generation and consumption that is coincident. Annual claims that pretend otherwise mask real gaps between what suppliers say they're delivering and what consumers are actually getting.

Fixing that requires both transparency and infrastructure. Matched provides the transparency—the independent signal that tells the market which suppliers are doing this right. Granular Energy provides the infrastructure—the tools that make it possible to do this at all.

We need both. The market needs to see what's happening. Suppliers need the systems to make it happen. Without either piece, the shift toward 24/7 matching stalls.

That's why this partnership matters. We're building on two sides of the same coin.
